Making Memories Patchwork Quilt

A quilting project from Alzheimer's Australia, that might particularly interest quilters with a personal connection to someone with Alzheimer's, or other dementia. Click here for more details and to download the entry form.

Memories
Our memories define our lives. They help us learn, grow and connect us with our loved ones. However when people develop dementia, their memory can fade.

Across Australia, it is estimated that 234,640 people are living with dementia.
[1] Nearly one million Australians are involved in the care of someone with dementia.[2]

To celebrate our precious memories and raise awareness of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, we invite you to enter the Making Memories Patchwork Quilt Competition. The competition encourages people to submit a quilting block that represents a special memory to them.

The Competition
To enter you will need to send in your block and an 80 word submission explaining the memory represented on the block.

Three winning blocks will be chosen to receive a craft voucher: 1st place = $750, 2nd place = $500, 3rd place = $250.

The three winning blocks and a further 60 highly commended blocks will be used to create the Making Memories Patchwork Quilt.

The closing date for competition entries is
25 May 2009.

Bushfire quilts

We all know the devastation that many Victorian families suffered in the bushfires of 6th March, and the distress that they are still experiencing as they deal with their losses, make plans to resettle, rebuild and re-make their communities.

Our "bank" of community quilts has been put to good use, being donated, along with other things quilt-related, to Victorian families who may draw a little comfort from them. We were delighted to be able to send some of them to Fairholme Quilter Dawn Cox's family members who lost their home in Marysville, and that they could be delivered by Dawn herself. Dawn has kindly shared these photos of the quilts and their new owners. They will be well used and loved, and we wish the family all the very best.
